Porcelain Veneers & Lumineers® in Havre de Grace

Achieve a Flawless Smile With VeneersGroup of young friends smiling - veneers and lumineers

Your smile is one of the first things people notice about you, and a beautiful appearance can be a huge boost to your confidence. But, unfortunately, many people are reluctant to smile because they’re unhappy with their appearance. Thankfully, Dr. Grubb offers an easy and convenient solution that can give you the smile of your dreams in just two appointments.

Learn more about veneers and lumineers and if they’re the ideal cosmetic dental solution for your needs.

Veneers & Lumineers

Veneers

Veneers are thin layers or “shells” placed over the surface of your teeth and can be used to eliminate a number of dental imperfections. They’re made from a durable, tooth-colored material to ensure a natural appearance and long-lasting results.

Lumineers

At our Havre de Grace office, we offer the number one patient-requested brand of veneers called Lumineers®. They’re ultra-thin for faster placement and less invasive than porcelain veneers. Lumineers are crafted from a durable, tooth-colored ceramic material called Cerinate®. It replicates the beautiful translucence of natural teeth to help us achieve picture-perfect results with less preparation of your tooth’s structure than veneers.

Reasons for Veneers and Lumineers

Veneers and lumineers are great solutions for an array of cosmetic dental imperfections, including:

  • Chipped, cracked, or damaged teeth
  • Gaps between teeth
  • Badly shaped or crooked teeth
  • Deeply stained or discolored teeth

Receiving Your New Smile

Whether you opt for lumineers or veneers, the placement process is relatively similar. First, you’ll have an initial consultation with Dr. Grubb where he’ll examine your oral health and determine which option may be best for you. Next, the doctor will take digital impressions of your teeth so he can create a restoration that fits perfectly into your smile. This can take a few weeks to complete, but we’ll bring you back for your final appointment once your veneers are ready.

If you’re having veneers placed, our expert dental team will gently shave a portion of your tooth’s enamel before applying the shell in order to make room for the covering. Because lumineers are much thinner, we can apply them directly to the tooth’s surface without removing any enamel, allowing you to keep your natural structure intact.

Once the tooth has been prepared, we’ll place the veneer or lumineer onto your tooth and ensure it matches perfectly and fits well before securing it with a dental-grade cement. After the team removes any excess resin, you’re free to enjoy all the benefits of a beautiful smile.

Which Option Is Better?

The two cosmetic treatments, veneers and lumineers, offer pros and cons compared to each other.

Lumineers are much thinner than veneers and don’t require the removal of any enamel, making them easier to apply and eliminating any need for drilling, shots, or temporary acrylics. They are also removable and can be taken off at any point. On the other hand, veneers are thicker, permanent solutions that can cover deeper stains more effectively and cover more substantial issues than lumineers can.

At Family Implant and Reconstructive Dentistry, we always tailor our treatment plans to each individual patient’s unique needs. Dr. Grubb will use your consultation to discuss your smile goals, answer any questions, and determine what options are available to you.

Caring for Your Veneers

No matter what treatment you receive, properly caring for your new smile will ensure that it lasts as long as possible. In addition to scheduling biannual checkups and following Dr. Grubb’s instructions carefully, there are a few other guidelines you should adhere to:

  • Avoid food and beverages that are known to stain such as wine, berries, and dark sodas
  • Wear a mouthguard when playing sports or to address teeth grinding, also known as bruxism
  • Don’t use your teeth as tools
  • Avoid biting into hard foods such as carrots and apples
  • Brush your teeth twice a day, floss daily, and rinse between meals

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the veneers procedure painful?
How long do veneers last?
Does dental insurance cover veneers?
What if my veneer falls off or is damaged?
Is the veneers procedure painful?
Dr. Grubb will administer a local anesthetic to numb your teeth and gums before the Lumineers procedure, so you won’t feel any pain. You may experience some mild discomfort immediately after treatment, but this will fade within a few hours.

If you suffer from dental anxiety or a low pain tolerance, we also offer dental sedation options to ensure you’re comfortable throughout the procedure. If you’re interested in learning more about dental sedation, contact our office by calling (410) 939-5800 and a knowledgeable team member will be happy to assist you.

How long do veneers last?
With excellent oral hygiene and regular checkups, they’ve been known to last up to 20 years. On average, Lumineers need to be replaced roughly every 10 years. To improve the longevity of your Lumineers, you’ll want to avoid biting into hard foods, refrain from eating foods known to stain, and schedule biannual appointments at our Havre de Grace office with Dr. Grubb. During these visits, he can examine the integrity of your Lumineers and may suggest new ones if it’s time.
Does dental insurance cover veneers?
Veneers are a cosmetic treatment, so most insurance companies won’t cover the procedure. We recommend checking with your provider prior to your appointment for specific information on your coverage.

For your convenience, we also offer flexible financing options so you can have the smile you deserve without having to wait. If there are any questions we can answer, don’t hesitate to contact our office by calling (410) 939-5800 and a helpful team member will be happy to assist you.

What if my veneer falls off or is damaged?
While it’s a rare occurrence for a veneer to fall off, it can happen. If your veneer falls off, do your best to keep it clean and call us right away, and we’ll schedule you an appointment at your earliest convenience. Don’t attempt to fix or reattach the veneer yourself, as this can result in further damage. Dr. Grubb may be able to reattach the veneer or recommend a new one.
