What is a Dental Emergency?

- Bleeding from the dental region that is difficult to control
- An infected tooth that requires root canal surgery

When a dental emergency is the result of trauma, it can be really scary. Whether your injury is due to a sports injury, an accident, or a fall, you and the people around you will naturally be feeling anxious and disoriented. It’s important to try to remain calm and contact our office for instructions on what to do.
When you call our office, you will be provided with immediate assistance. We’ll let you know where to go and what to do to alleviate your pain.
What to do With Missing Teeth
If one or more of your teeth get knocked out due to an accident or injury, it might be possible to save the tooth. That’s why it’s important to take care of the tooth in the following manner while you’re awaiting further instructions from our office.
- Only handle the tooth by the crown
- Rinse the tooth with water if it’s dirty
- If it doesn’t hurt too much, try to reposition the tooth back in the socket
- If it hurts too much to put the tooth in its socket, place it in a container of milk
Once the tooth is secured, apply a cold, wet compress to the socket and see a dentist as soon as possible.
