How Dr. Grubb Uses Continuing Education to Better Serve Our Patients

January 18, 2018Richard GrubbContinuing Education

Dentistry is a profession that requires extensive knowledge and a high-level skill set. That’s why it’s not easy to become a dentist. Like all of his colleagues in the profession, our Havre de Grace dentist had to undergo extensive training and pass numerous examinations in order to obtain his license to practice.

Even though dentists are well trained in dental school, all dentists are required by their local state licensing agency to engage in continuing education classes. This must be done throughout their career in order to continue practicing. It’s essential for dentists to remain up to date with new developments in the field because dentistry is constantly evolving due to modern technological advances.

It’s Not Easy to Become a Dentist

Becoming a dentist takes a great deal of time and effort. In order to get accepted into dental school, you have to get really good grades in college and earn a high score on the Dental Admissions Test (DAT). Completing dental school requires completing four years of rigorous full time studying and passing numerous difficult exams. After finishing dental school, you still have to pass the demanding National Board Dental Examination before you can apply for your license.

Dr. Grubb has a very impressive record as a dentist. He’s a past president of the Maryland State Dental Association and he’s also an assistant professor at the University of Maryland School of Dentistry.

Continuing Education for Dentists in Maryland

The State of Maryland requires all dentists to complete at least 30 hours of continuing education units every two years in order to renew their license. Dr. Grubb uses continuing education courses to remain at the forefront of his profession and provide the most current treatment options for our patients.

Continuing education consists of courses approved by the state of Maryland. These classes help dentists stay up to date with current technologies, new scientific information, and advancements in surgical techniques that are necessary for dentists to know about to best serve our patients.

Continuing education courses allow dentists to refine their skills by studying under leaders in the field. This helps us provide our patients with effective and comprehensive treatment. Continuing education also provides knowledge in important issues related to the field, such as infection control, pain management, professional responsibilities, and legal and ethical issues related to the field.
